The Serpent Tree

Driving to Eastern Market last weekend, we saw some of these crazy sculptures along New York Avenue. I looked into it and apparently it’s the National Museum of Women in the Arts’ New York Avenue Sculpture Project. The NMWA will be changing the sculptures periodically, but the ones on display now are by the late French sculptor Niki de Saint Phalle. This particular piece is  called Arbre Serpents (Serpent Tree) — it was about 9 feet tall and covered in mosaic pieces, making it glimmer with the mid-day sun reflecting off of it and a great subject to photograph. I just thought it was random/awesome for there to be these huge, colorful sculptures in the middle of D.C.
